On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you attach a device that loads the Serial Scanner driver (Serscan.sys) to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you experience the following problems:

CAUSEThis problem occurs because the DriverEntry function in the Serscan.sys driver does not fill in the IRP_MJ_SYSTEM_CONTROL I/O request packet (IRP) dispatch routine that is checked by the Driver Verifier utility. RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
