On This PageSYMPTOMSThe heavy use of Winsock programs may exhaust the "nonpaged pool memory" of a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer. This behavior is likely to occur if the Winsock program is dealing with both "Out-of-Band (MSG_OOB) traffic" and "standard TCP traffic." In this situation, you may receive various error messages. Also, you may experience poor performance. Additionally, the system may stop responding (hang). CAUSEIf the Winsock program does not read the incoming data from Winsock, the "AfdB pool tag" may buffer more data than is optimal. This behavior may exhaust all available "nonpaged pool memory." RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article.
