Symptoms

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer that has the Routing and Remote Access service enabled and configured to use the Network Address Translation (NAT) functionality. When the Windows Server 2003-based computer is under heavy load, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
  • Your computer automatically restarts.
  • After you log on, you receive the following error message:
    Microsoft Windows
    The system has recovered from a serious error.
    A log of this error has been created.
    Please tell Microsoft about this problem.
    We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft Windows. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous.
    To see what data this error report contains, click here .
    If the error message still appears and if you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. Then, you see error signature information that may resemble to the following:

Cause

The problem may occur if a user uses IP preservation in a Windows Server 2003-based computer that is under heavy load and uses Windows Server 2003 SP1 or Windows Server 2003 SP2. The IP NAT driver may incorrectly process the reset interface request in Windows Server 2003 SP1 and in Windows Server 2003 SP2.

Resolution
