A hidden series in an Excel 2003 chart does not appear in the chart legend after you unhide the series in Excel 2007

SYMPTOMS

You open a Microsoft Office Excel 2003 workbook in Microsoft Office Excel 2007. If the workbook contains a chart that has a hidden series, one or more of the following symptoms occur after you unhide the hidden series:
  • The hidden series does not appear in the chart legend.
  • The hidden series is missing a border in the chart.
  • One or more than one series that were not hidden do not appear in the chart legend.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps in Excel 2007:
  1. Re-create the chart legend. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click to select the chart.
    2. In Chart Tools, click the Layout tab, click Legend, and then click Show Legend at Right.

      Note The series appears in the legend.

      Note You can select a different option in order to display the legend in a different position on the chart. For example, to display the legend on the left, click Legend, and then click Show Legend at Left.
  2. Set the border for the series. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click to select the series.
    2. In Chart Tools, click to select the Layout tab, and then click Format Selection.
    3. Click Border Color, click Solid Line, and then click Close.

      Note A border appears around the series.
