Error message when you try to sequence FactSet in SoftGrid: "Unable to map FactSet INI files to registry"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to sequence FactSet in Microsoft SoftGrid, the FactSet Setup program is unsuccessful. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Unable to map FactSet INI files to registry. This may be due to not having write access to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the registry.

Error: The system cannot find the file specified.

Setup was trying to do the following actions:
move FactSet INI files to <old> directory
map INI file calls to registry (this requires registry access rights).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you must add registry values to the local registry before you sequence FactSet. Add these values to the virtual registry during sequencing. To do this, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Notepad.
  2. Copy the following text into the Notepad document.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\FACTSET.INI]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\FACTSET.INI\Excel]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\FACTSET.INI\FactSet]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\FACTSET.INI\File Locations]

  3. On the File menu, click Save, and then save the file as factset.reg.
  4. Double-click factset.reg, and then add the information to the local registry.
  5. Start the Sequencer.
  6. During the monitoring phase of the installation wizard, double-click factset.reg, and then add the information to the virtual registry.
  7. Install FactSet.
