When your Zune device starts, a Zune logo and a progress bar appear. The progress bar may not move, and the logo or the progress bar may flash. The device stops responding, and the display may turn black, although the backlight turns on, and the screen is illuminated.
Try one or more of the following steps:

1. Restart the Zune device. 2. Let the battery in the Zune device drain completely. After the device turns off, connect the device to a power source by using a Zune Sync Cable.

3. Restore the Zune device software. As a last resort, try to restore the Zune device software. When you restore your Zune device software, all content and the installed device software is removed. For more information, see the following article: 927001
