SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a Data Mining Extensions (DMX) query that uses the OPENQUERY statement. The DMX query uses a linked server to query data from a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services server. When you run the DMX query, you receive the following error message:
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "<My_LinkedServer>" returned message "The following system error occurred: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."

OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "<My_LinkedServer>" returned message "Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source specified in the query."
This problem occurs even if you are a member of the database administrator role.

This problem occurs when you are not a member of the local Administrators group.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the linked server refers to an OLE DB data source that is configured to impersonate a user account.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information
