FIX: Error message when you run a DMX query that uses a linked server to query data from a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services server: "The following system error occurred: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password"Article ID: 932106 - View products that this article applies to. Bug #: 50000726 (SQL Hotfix) Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release. On This PageSUMMARYThis article describes the following about this hotfix release:
SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You have a Data Mining Extensions (DMX) query that uses the OPENQUERY statement. The DMX query uses a linked server to query data from a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services server. When you run the DMX query, you receive the following error message: OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "<My_LinkedServer>" returned message "The following system error occurred: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "<My_LinkedServer>" returned message "Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source specified in the query." This problem occurs when you are not a member of the local Administrators group. CAUSEThis problem occurs because the linked server refers to an OLE DB data source that is configured to impersonate a user account.
