On a computer that is running Windows Vista, you apply updates to a Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Language Pack, to MUI files, and to the MUI cache in the memory. However, when you restart the computer, the updates that you applied to the MUI Language Pack are lost.
For example, you apply the update in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 930585 to the MUI Language Pack on a computer that is running the Romanian-language version of Windows Vista. Then, the problem that is described in KB article 930585 is resolved by the update. However, after you restart the computer, this problem occurs again.
Note After you restart the computer, the MUI files that are stored on the disk remain updated.
This issue occurs because Windows Vista does not write the MUI cache in the memory to the MUI cache that is stored on the disk before you restart the computer.
After your restart the computer, Windows Vista rebuilds the MUI cache in the memory according to the MUI cache that is stored on the disk. Therefore, the updated MUI cache in the memory does not contain the content from the MUI Language Pack that you applied.
A hotfix is available to resolve this problem. The hotfix uses the MUI files that are stored on the disk to force Windows Vista to rebuild the MUI cache in the memory and to rebuild the MUI cache that is stored on the disk.
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows Vista service pack that contains this hotfix.
