The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service stops unexpectedly when the Exchange Server 2007-based server replicates the Public folder

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You deploy a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007-based server to replicate the public folder data from another Exchange server.
  • You set the event logging level for Replication DS Updates to any setting other than Lowest.
In this scenario, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service in Exchange 2007 stops unexpectedly when the Exchange Server 2007-based server replicates the Public folder.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the diagnostic logging performs string conversion.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem if you are running Exchange Server 2007, download and install Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Note This problem does not occur in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the event logging level for Replication DS Updates to Lowest. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Exchange 2007 Management Shell.
  2. Run the following command in the Exchange 2007 Management Shell:
    set-eventloglevel 'MSExchangeIS\9001 Public\Replication DS Updates' -level Lowest
