How to change the source for a client computer from an updated administrative installation point to an Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) source

This article describes how to change the source for a client computer from an updated administrative installation point to a Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) source in an organization that uses Microsoft Office 2000.
A popular method to deploy and to maintain Office 2000 in an organization is by using an administrative installation point. Frequently, the most efficient method of updating client computers is to update the administrative installation point and then to perform a re-caching reinstallation of Office 2000 on the client computers.
The re-caching reinstallation method replaces the cached .msi file on the client computer and then updates all Office 2000 files as required. New client computers that are installed by using the updated administrative image automatically receive the newer version of the .msi file. You do not have to chain updates to the core installation of Office 2000.
Another way to distribute an update is to apply the update directly to a client. However, when you try to apply an update to an Office 2000 product that was installed from an updated administrative installation point, you may receive the following error message:
The update cannot be applied.
If the administrative installation point for Office 2000 was previously updated by an update that was not an Office 2000 service pack update, a later related update is blocked. Unexpected results can occur when you apply an update to the client computer if a related update that is not an Office 2000 service pack update was previously applied to the administrative installation point.
To avoid unexpected results, rebuild the Office 2000 administrative installation point by using Office 2000, and then apply the Office 2003 SP3 update to the Office 2000 administrative installation point. Do not apply any updates that are not service pack updates.
