SYMPTOMS

You use one of the following methods to obtain statements in the current batch in SQL Server 2005:
Run the DBCC INPUTBUFFER statement.
Enable trace flag 1204 to troubleshoot a deadlock situation.
Use the Deadlock Graph event class to trace deadlock events.
Use the Activity Monitor component of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
However, SQL Server returns any of the following results:
Statements in the previous batch.
The previous remote procedure call (RPC) event.
A NULL value.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Sp_cursorprepexec system stored procedure is being executed while you obtain the statements in the current batch.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following query to obtain statements in the current batch:
SELECT session_id, text
FROM sys.dm_exec_requests AS r
     CROSS APPLY
     sys.dm_exec_sql_text(sql_handle) AS s
WHERE session_id = <session_id>
Note <session_id> represents the ID of the session in which the statements are running.
