Error message when you click a combo box control on a Windows Vista-based computer that is running Windows Internet Explorer 7 and the Fingerprint Reader: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. On a Windows Vista-based computer that contains the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader, you use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to visit a Web site. You click a combo box control, such as a drop-down list or a text box that has an attached list. You exit Windows Internet Explorer 7.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
When you view the details in the error report, the error report states that an error occurred in Iexplore.exe in one of the following modules:
  • NTDLL.DLL
  • IEUSER.EXE
  • DPFBVIEW.DLL
  • DMBAR.DLL
  • FOTKIUPLOADER.OCX
  • IEFRAME.DLL
  • IMAGEUPLOADER.OCX
  • QWUTIL.DLL
  • ROBOFORM.DLL
  • RPCRT4.DLL
  • URLMON.DLL

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, download the latest software update for the Fingerprint Reader. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
