SYMPTOMS

A network file system (NFS) share is configured on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2. The root user of a Linux-based system or of a UNIX-based system uses one of the following commands on a directory or on a file in this NFS share:
  • chown
  • chgrp
In this situation, the Linux permissions or the UNIX permissions of the directory or of the file are incorrectly changed to 777 (rwxrwxrwx).

You experience this problem if the following conditions are true:
  • The NFS share allows for read and write access.
  • The NFS share allows for root access.
  • Simple User Name Mapping is configured.
  • Advanced User Name Mapping is configured, and the Linux root account or the UNIX root account is mapped to the Windows Administrator account.
