Error message on an external monitor when you close the lid of a portable Windows Vista-based computer while a DVD is playing: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You attach an external monitor to a Windows Vista-based portable computer.
  • In the Power Options item in Control Panel, you select the Do nothing option in the When I close the lid of my portable computer list.
  • You close the lid of the computer while a DVD is playing in Microsoft Windows Media Player 11.
In this scenario, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copyright protection between your DVD drive, decoder and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart the DVD playback.
