On a computer that is running Windows Vista, you create a subfolder in a shared folder. When you try to rename the subfolder, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

The <Shared Folder Name> folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted.
Do you want to create it?

Additionally, if you try to save a file to the shared folder, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

There has been a network or file permission error. The network connection may be lost.

Note You use Microsoft System Management Server 2003 Operating System Deployment Feature Pack to deploy Windows Vista to the computer.

This issue occurs because the client-side cache database that the Offline Files feature uses was corrupted when Windows Vista was deployed. This behavior causes a missing registry value in the registry.

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

To fix this problem, follow these steps:

Click Start

On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
Type FormatDatabase, and then press ENTER.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer to apply the change.
