Message when you connect a Casio digital camera to the USB port on a Windows Vista-based computer: "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (E:)"

When you connect a Casio digital camera to the USB port on a Windows Vista-based computer, you receive a message that resembles the following:Additionally, you cannot access the photo data.

You experience this problem when you use one of the following Casio digital camera models:

• CASIO Exilim Card EX-S3
• CASIO Exilim Zoom EX-Z3
• CASIO QV-R40

This problem occurs because Windows Vista does not recognize the Secure Digital (SD) card of the digital camera.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, configure Windows Vista to recognize the SD card of the digital camera. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the notification area of the computer, and then click Safely remove Device_Name.
   
   Note In this step, the Device_Name placeholder represents the name of the digital camera.
2. Unplug the digital camera from the USB port of the computer.
3. Open Registry Editor. To do this, click Start

   , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

   If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
6. Type USBSTOR, and then press ENTER.
7. Right-click the USBSTOR key, point to New, click Key, type 07CF1001, and then press ENTER.
8. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
9. Type DeviceHackFlags, and then press ENTER.
10. On the Edit menu, click Modify, type 10 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
11. Exit Registry Editor.
12. Plug the digital camera in the USB port of the computer.
