Remove a payment option from an Xbox LIVE account

Xbox.com steps: Remove a payment option

  1. Go to www.xbox.com/accounts (http://www.xbox.com/accounts) .
  2. Under Payment & Billing, select Manage Payment Options.
  3. If prompted, sign in using your Windows Live ID (email and password).
  4. Next to the payment option you want to change, click Remove.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the process.

Note You can't remove a credit card that is associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership. If you see the following error message, it may be because the payment option you tried to remove is associated with your membership:
This payment option cannot be removed at this time. Please contact Xbox LIVE Customer Support.
To remove this payment option, change the payment option associated with your Xbox LIVE membership using the steps in the following article:

Console steps: Remove a payment option

  1. Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
  2. Go to My Xbox,and then select your avatar.
  3. Go to Account Management, and then select Manage Account.
  4. Select Manage Payment Options.
  5. Select Remove Payment Option.
  6. Select the payment option you want to remove.
Note You can’t remove a credit card that is associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership. If you try to remove the credit card that's associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership, you will be prompted to add a new payment option, such as another credit card. If you don't have another payment option or you want to remove all payment options, please contact Xbox Support (http://support.xbox.com/pages/call-us.aspx) .

Important If you have a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, you can only change your payment options for the life of your contract. If the payment option is removed, you are effectively canceling your contract and will be assessed an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes (http://www.xbox.com/support/contract-subscription/en-us/billing/early-termination-fee) . When your contract does end, your account will not be automatically renewed.

Once a payment option is removed, it will not appear on your console or Xbox.com. However, for historical reference, the payment option appears with a Removed status on our Microsoft Billing website (billing.microsoft.com (https://billing.microsoft.com/) ). After a payment option is removed, it can only be used if you add it back to your account.
