SYMPTOMSOn a Windows Vista-based computer, you try to connect to a network by using a dial-up connection in Windows Internet Explorer 7. However, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Cannot write to the telephone book. Error 624 : Telephone book file cannot be updated. CAUSE
This behavior occurs if Internet Explorer 7 is running in protected mode. Specifically, this behavior occurs because some registry subkeys are restricted when you enable protected mode in Internet Explorer 7.
Note By default, protected mode is enabled in Internet Explorer 7. WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, start the dial-up connection before you start Internet Explorer 7. To do this, follow these steps:
