A Toshiba Device Bay optical drive is not recognized in Windows Vista

SYMPTOMS

You may experience either of the following problems when you use a Toshiba optical drive that is connected to a portable Toshiba computer that is running Windows Vista:
The drive is not recognized when wake the computer from sleep.
You use a hot-swap operation or a warm-swap operation to connect a Toshiba device bay optical drive to the computer. In this scenario, the drive is not recognized.

Note In a "hot-swap operation," you connect the drive while the computer is still running. In a "warm-swap operation," you connect the drive while the computer is asleep, and then you wake the computer.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.
