DCOM errors occur approximately every 15 minutes after you install Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, the following DCOM error occurs approximately every 15 minutes:

Event ID: 10016
Source: DCOM
User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE
Computer: Computer_Name

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the network service has not been granted the Launch permissions.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
2.Expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
3.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
4.On the COM Security tab, click Edit Default in the Launch and Activation Permissions area.
5.In the Launch Permission dialog box, click Add.
6.In the Enter the object names to select box, type network service, click Check Names, and then click OK.
7.In the Group or user names list, click NETWORK SERVICE.
8.In the Permissions for NETWORK SERVICE list, click to select the Allow check box for the following permissions:
Local Launch
Remote Launch
Local Activation
Remote Activation
9.Click OK, click OK, and then close Component Services.
If the DCOM errors still occur, follow these steps:
1.Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
2.Expand Component Services, expand Computers, and then expand DCOM Config.
3.Right-click netman, and then click Properties.
4.On the Security tab, click Edit in the Launch and Activation Permissions area.
5.Click to select the Allow check box for the following permissions:
Local Launch
Local Activation
6.Click to clear the Allow check box for the following permissions:
Remote Launch
Remote Activation
7.Click OK, click OK, and then close Component Services.
