Error message when you try to open the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005: "Missing shortcut"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario.

You install the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Library for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
You install the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005 on the same computer.
You try to open the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005. To do this, you click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Developer Network, and then click MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

Insert the CD or the DVD from which that you installed the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005.
Locate the DExplore folder.

Note Typically, this folder is in the following location:
Drive:\DExplore
Double-click DExplore.exe to start the installation.

On a computer that does not have Visual Studio 2005 installed, install the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008.
