SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Distribution Manager tries to copy package source files to a remote distribution point, you receive error messages that resemble the following in the Distmgr.log file:

Copying c:\_S Mvzn8.TMP\A2561405.CAB to \\ServerName\DPShare$\SMSPKG\HZ100002\A2561405.CAB, OK SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 10/25/2005 10:21:16 AM 3960 (0x0F78)

Cannot copy package HZ100002 from c:\_S Mvzn8.TMP\ to \\ServerName\DPShare$\SMSPKG\HZ100002\, Win32 Error = 5 SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 10/25/2005 10:23:02 AM 3960 (0x0F78)
Failed to copy package HZ100002 from c:\_S Mvzn8.TMP\ to MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=SiteName"]\\ServerName\DPShare$\SMSPKG\HZ100002\ SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER 10/25/2005 10:23:02 AM 3960 (0x0F78)

In this example, the SMS Distribution Manager can successfully copy some files to the distribution point until the SMS Distribution Manager tries to copy the Autorun.inf file. After the SMS Distribution Manager tries to copy the Autorun.inf file, the errors in Distmgr.log are logged. Additionally, the copy process stops responding. However, if Autorun.inf is the first file in a list of files that the Distribution Manager tries to copy to a remote distribution point, no files are copied to the remote distribution point, and then the errors that are listed in this example are logged in the Distmgr.log file.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when McAfee Viruscan is installed and is configured on the destination computer so that either of the following conditions is true:
  • Block all files that have the ".inf" file name extension from being copied to the destination computer.
  • Block files that are named "Autorun.inf" from being copied to the destination computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must make sure that the McAfee agent is not configured on the destination computer to block the file name or the file types that are mentioned in the "Cause" section.

MORE INFORMATION

You can configure some versions McAfee Viruscan to prevent copying of the following files:
  • Any files that have an ".inf" file name extension
  • Any file that is named "Autorun.inf"
This issue is not exclusive to Systems Management Server. This issue affects any program that is designed to automatically copy or to automatically transfer files over the network. Additionally, this issue affects any manual file copy operations.
