You cannot install Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 on a Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer that has the Exchange Server Intelligent Message Filter v2 installed

When you try to install Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) on a Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer that has the Microsoft Exchange Server Intelligent Message Filter v2 installed, the Exchange 2003 SP2 installation fails. Additionally, you receive the following message:However, when you try to locate the Intelligent Message Filter on the Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer, the Intelligent Message Filter is not listed in the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.

Typically, this issue occurs when you use a post-Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installation source to install Exchange 2003 on the Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer. Additionally, the Intelligent Message Filter may not appear in the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel when you log on by using an account that differs from the account that was used to install the Intelligent Message Filter.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Use an account that has administrative permissions to log on to the Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer.
2. In Windows Explorer, locate the MSCFV2 folder. The MSCFV2 folder is located in the following folder:
   Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin
3. Right-click the MSCFV2 folder, click Rename, and then rename the folder to MSCFV2.OLD.
4. Right-click the ContentFilter.dll file, click Rename, and then rename the file to ContentFilter.OLD.
5. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
6. In Registry Editor, click the following subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
7. On the File menu, click Export.
8. In the Export Registry File dialog box, type a name, and then click Save to save the subkey.
9. Right-click both the ContentFilterVersion registry entry and the ContentFilterVersion registry entry under the following subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange
   Then, click Delete to delete each entry.
10. Right-click the following subkey, and then click Delete:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ContentFilter
11. Restart the Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer.
12. Install Exchange 2003 SP2.
