Shortcut keys do not function as expected in the Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish versions of Windows Media Player 11 and of Windows Media Player 12

When you try to use shortcut keys to change the volume in the Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, or Turkish version of Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Media Player 12, the following shortcut keys do not function as expected.

• F10 - volume up
• F9 - volume down
• F7 - mute

This issue occurs in the Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, andTurkish versions of Windows Media Player 11 and Windows Media Player 12 because the shortcut keys and the respective actions are as follows in these versions of the program: 

• F9 - volume up
• F8 - volume down
• F7 - mute

Steps to reproduce the behavior

1. Start Windows Media Player 12 on a computer that is running the Korean version of Windows 7.
2. Play a music file.
3. Press F9 to increase volume and press F8 to decrease volume. 

You will find that the function keys F9 and F8 work incorrectly. When you press F8, the volume is muted. When you press F9 the volume is lowered.
