This article describes the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 issues that are fixed in the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated December 14, 2007.
This article describes the following items about the hotfix:

The issues that the hotfix fixes.

Whether you must restart the computer after you install the
hotfix.

This hotfix package
also fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a
Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
•
The "Send Options" dialog box does not open if more than five address spaces are configured for fax
Consider the following scenario. You run Outlook 2003 on
a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server. On this server, more than
five address spaces are configured for fax. You right-click a fax address in
the To box of an e-mail message and then click Send
Options. In this scenario, the Send Options dialog
box does not open.
Additionally, you receive the following error
message:
Cannot perform the requested operation. The
command selected is not valid for this recipient. To set option for this
message, click Options on the toolbar.
•
You receive an inaccurate error message when you try to save a malformed HTML e-mail message
When you try to save a malformed HTML e-mail message as
an .msg file, the message is not saved. Additionally, you receive the following
inaccurate error message:
The message store has reached
its maximum size. To reduce the amount of data in this message store, select
some items that you no longer need, and permanently (SHIFT + DEL) delete
them.
After you install this hotfix package, you will receive the
following error message when you try to save a malformed HTML e-mail message:
Operation failed.
•
An e-mail message does not open when the message is in a subfolder of a message folder that you copied to your personal folders (.pst) file
You move or copy a message folder that contains
subfolders from an offline folder (.ost) file to your personal folders (.pst)
file. When you try to open an e-mail message in a subfolder in the .pst file,
the message does not open.
Additionally, you receive the following
error message:
This is a message header. The full item
has not been downloaded.
If you double-click the message header to
open the e-mail message, you receive the following error message:
Can't open this item. This operation is not supported
until the entire message is downloaded. Download the message and try
again.
•
Outlook may not use the same security form when you are in Cached Exchange Mode as it does when you are offline
You use Outlook security forms to send attachments in
e-mail messages. If you have multiple security forms, Outlook may not use the
same security form when you are working in Cached Exchange Mode as it does when
you are offline.
•
An e-mail message that was moved to a .pst file by a rule does not open
You enable your Out of Office Assistant and then create
a rule to move e-mail messages that you receive to your personal folders (.pst)
file. When you double-click an e-mail message that was moved to the .pst file
by the rule, the message does not open.
Additionally, you receive the
following error message:
Can't open this item. This
operation is not supported until the entire message is downloaded. Download the
message and try again.
•
Windows Internet Explorer may appear to stop responding when Outlook and Microsoft Communicator are running
You run Outlook 2003 on a computer that is also running
Communicator. In Internet Explorer, you click a link on a Web page that opens a
Microsoft Word document. When you do this, Internet Explorer appears to stop
responding. If you exit Communicator, Internet Explorer starts responding
again.
•
The Collaboration Data Objects file does not include the Western Australia time zone for daylight saving time changes
The version of the Collaboration Data Objects (Cdo.dll)
file that is included with Outlook 2003 does not include the Western Australia
time zone for daylight saving time (DST) changes. This hotfix package adds the
Western Australia time zone to the Cdo.dll file.
•
Transaction logs on a server that is running Exchange Server grow quickly after you import a .pst file
Consider the following scenario. You import a personal
folders (.pst) file that is larger than your mailbox limitation. When you do
this, you receive the following expected error message:
You have exceeded the size limit on your mailbox. You can find
types of items to delete or move, empty the deleted items folder, or you can
have Outlook transfer items to an archive file.
Additionally, the
transaction logs on the server that is running Exchange Server grow quickly.
In this scenario, if you close the error message, the transaction
logs unexpectedly continue to grow quickly.
•
Transaction logs on a server that is running Exchange Server grow quickly after you move an e-mail message from your .pst file to your Inbox
Consider the following scenario. You work in Cached
Exchange Mode in Outlook 2003. You move an e-mail message from your personal
folders (.pst) file to the Inbox folder. The e-mail message causes your mailbox
limitation to be exceeded.
In this scenario, the transaction logs on
the server that is running Exchange Server grow quickly.

Outlook closes unexpectedly when you try to manage custom forms
When you try to manage custom forms in the Forms
Manager dialog box in Outlook 2003, Outlook closes unexpectedly.
Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office
Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience.
When you view the data in the error report, the
report contains an error signature that resembles the following error
signature.

To manage custom forms in Outlook 2003, follow these steps:
1.
On the Tools menu, click
Options.
2.
On the Other tab, click
Advanced Options, and then click Custom
Forms.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
