FIX: The IP address of a Windows CE .NET 4.2-based mobile device is not updated when you roam to a different wireless access point that uses a different IP subnet mask
Consider the following scenario. You use a Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2-based mobile device together with a wireless access point. Then, you roam to a different wireless access point that uses a different IP subnet mask. In this scenario, the IP address of the Windows CE .NET 4.2-based mobile device is not updated. Additionally, you cannot access network resources.
Note This problem does not occur when you use a Microsoft Windows CE 5.0-based mobile device.
This problem occurs because a full discovery process is not performed. When you roam to a different wireless access point that uses a different IP subnet mask, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) issues a renewal request. However, the IP address cannot be renewed. When this problem occurs in Windows CE .NET 4.2, no additional processing occurs. Additionally, the IP address of the Windows CE .NET 4.2-based mobile device is not updated.
A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE .NET 4.2 Platform Builder Monthly Update (May 2007).
