You may encounter one or more of the following symptoms when you use Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007 (Essentials 2007).
Symptom 1After you use Essentials 2007 to discover network devices, the Network Topology diagram view in the Monitoring space is populated with subnet groups that contain network devices. However, Windows-based computers are not displayed in this view.
Symptom 2After the problem that is described in the "Symptom 1" section occurs, all Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) component parts of Essentials 2007 fail on the Essentials 2007 agent. This failure occurs because the Essentials 2007 agent is not added to a security group successfully. Additionally, events that resemble the following may be logged in the Application event log when you deploy the Essentials 2007 agents:
Event Type: Warning
Event Type: Error
This problem occurs because the Microsoft.mom.databasequerymodules.dll module tries to create a relationship between the IPSubnet and the Windows-based computers. However, the IPSubnet is not available when the Microsoft.mom.databasequerymodules.dll module tries to create a relationship. Therefore, the symptoms that are mentioned in the "Symptoms" section occur.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

After you apply this hotfix, Windows-based computers are correctly populated into subnet groups. Therefore, these computers will appear in the Network Topology diagram view.
