This document addresses some of the most frequently encountered issues when deploying and using Microsoft E-Learning Library (MELL). The information presented in this document assumes that you have read and understood the “MELL 2.0 Deployment Guide” (http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mell/deployment.mspx)

MELL products can be used and deployed in two different ways:
  • Single Station
  • Web Server

Issues specific to Single Station install only

Issues described in this section affects only Single Station (local) install of MELL. These issues are not present in a Web Server install of MELL.

  • Windows XP SP 2 Compatibility Issue
If you are running MELL on a Windows XP SP 2 computer, MELL may not function properly. Microsoft has released a patch to resolve this issue. Please access the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for more information on this issue:

  • Adobe Flash Player Compatibility Issue
If you are running MELL on a computer that has Adobe Flash player version 8 or above installed, certain portion of MELL may not function. Microsoft has released a patch to resolve this issue. Please access the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for more information on this issue:

Issues specific to Web Server install only

Issues described in this section affects only Web Server install of MELL. These issues are not present in a Single Station (local) install of MELL
  • Adobe Flash Player Looping Issue
When trying to launch an excercise in MELL, the loading screen appears and the excercise never launches. One of the files needed for the simulation is never loaded causing the load sequence to loop endlessly. Microsoft has released a patch to resolve this issue. Issues specific to both Single Station and Web Server install


Issues described in this section affect both Web Server install and Single Station (local) install of MELL.
  • XML Parser 6.0 (Windows Vista, Visual Studio 2005) Compatibility Issue
If you are running MELL on a computer with XML Parser 6.0 installed, which is installed automatically by Windows Vista, Visual Studio 2005, SQL Server 2005, and SharePoint 2005, you may not be able to access MELL.
