All dynamic disk volumes are removed and then re-created when you restore a computer by using Complete PC Restore together with the "Format and repartition disks" option in Windows Vista

Consider the following scenario. You restore a computer by using the Windows Complete PC Restore program in Windows Vista. You use the Format and repartition disks option. In this scenario, all dynamic disk volumes are removed and then re-created. This behavior occurs even if the dynamic disk volumes are not included in the restore process.

This behavior occurs because Automated System Recovery (ASR) restores the disk volume configuration to match the disk volume configuration that was included in the backup set. When you use the Format and repartition disks option, ASR removes and then re-creates disk volumes.

To resolve this behavior, do not use the Format and repartition disks option if the disk volumes have not changed since the Windows Complete PC Backup image was created.

If a hard disk was replaced, and the volume information needs be restored, disconnect any dynamic disks that you do not want to be included in the restore process before you start the restore process. Then, restore the computer by using Complete PC Restore. Select the Format and repartition disks option.
