SYMPTOMS

You cannot use the SNACFG (snacfg.exe) command-line utility to configure the Use fixed font size option for 3270 print sessions and for Advanced Program-to-Program Communications (APPC) print sessions in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004

Note This issue also occurs in Host Integration Server 2006.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SNACFG utility does not correctly implement the /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE option. This option corresponds to the Use fixed font size option that is available in the SNA Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in for 3270 print sessions and for APPC print sessions.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Host Integration Server 2004 Service Pack 1.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, configure the Use fixed font size option for each 3270 print session or for each APPC print session that requires this feature. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Microsoft SNA Manager.
  2. Right-click the print session that you want to modify, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Job Format tab.
  4. Click to select the Font check box, click to select the Use fixed font size check box, enter a font size, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, the Use fixed font size option can be configured for print sessions by using the /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE option. The following sample SNACFG command enables the Use fixed font size option for an existing 3270 print session that is named PRINT1.
SNACFG PRINTSESSION3270 PRINT1 /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE:Yes /FONT:Courier /FONTSIZE:10
The following sample SNACFG command enables the Use fixed font size option for an existing APPC print session that is named APPCPRT1.
SNACFG PRINTSESSION3270 APPCPRT1 /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE:Yes /FONT:Courier /FONTSIZE:10
Note You must specify a specific font and a specific font size together with the /FONT and /FONTSIZE options to enable the Use fixed font size option.

If you specify the /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE:Yes option for a print session that is not configured to use a specific font and a specific font size, the SNACFG utility returns the following error message:
Undefined parameter FONT
Undefined parameter FONTSIZE
Required parameter missing or parameter value invalid
Command failed
You can use the following SNACFG command to enable the Use fixed font size option when the specified 3270 print session has been previously configured to use a specific font and a specific font size.
SNACFG PRINTSESSION3270 <PrintSessionName> /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE:Yes
Similarly, you can use the following SNACFG command to disable the Use fixed font size option when the specified 3270 print session has been previously configured to use a specific font and a specific font size.
SNACFG PRINTSESSION3270 <PrintSessionName> /OVERRIDEFONTSIZE:No
Note The same scenario applies to APPC print sessions if "PRINTSESSION3270" is replaced by "PRINTSESSIONAPPC" in the commands that are listed in this section.
