The Microsoft Firewall service stops unexpectedly in ISA Server 2004

SYMPTOMS

On a server that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004, the Microsoft Firewall service stops unexpectedly. When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in the System log:

Description:
Due to an unexpected error, the service fwsrv stopped responding to all requests. Stop the service or the corresponding process if it does not respond, and then start it again. Check the Windows event Viewer for related error messages.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a pContext pointer becomes null if a connection is notified to close multiple times. This situation causes an access violation in the Wspsrv.exe process.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install ISA Server 2004 Service Pack 3. For more information about how to obtain this service pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
