SYMPTOMS

When you deploy a Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Operating System Deployment (OSD) image to a collection of client computers, users may unintentionally start the installation process.

When the image is advertised to an SMS client, an installation icon appears in the client computer's taskbar. After the installation icon appears in the taskbar for some time, a notification dialog box appears. When this dialog box appears, a user may unintentionally start the installation by pressing a key. Because installation starts unexpectedly, users may not have enough time to close open programs and to back up data before the installation. Therefore, users may lose data.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Install Now is the default option in the notification dialog box. If the user presses the I key, the space bar, or the ENTER key, the installation setup starts.

This problem occurs because users trigger the installation accidentally by pressing the I key, the space bar, or the enter key because Install Now is the default button.
