SYMPTOMS

When you create a configuration baseline rule that includes more than 300 software updates in Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, the configuration baseline is not evaluated correctly. Additionally, you receive the following error message in the DataTransferService.log file:
Formatted string exceeded max buffer size. Result is truncated.
You also receive the following error message in the SDMAgent.log file:
ParseDtsMessage error (0x80004005)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The figure of 300 updates refers to the total number of updates involved that will include updates that link to those directly added to the configuration baseline.

Therefore, the visible number of updates may be much less than 300. However, they represent a much larger total.
