You may receive an error message when you create a partition by using the Disk Management utility or the DiskPart tool in a Windows Server 2003 clustered environment
When you use the Disk Management utility under Computer Management to create a partition in a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 clustered environment, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
The operation was canceled due to an internal error.
Additionally, when you use the DiskPart tool to create the partition, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
DiskPart was unable to create the specified partition
Set the Startup value for the Cluster service to Manual on all nodes in the cluster. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
Click Cluster Server, and then click Startup.
Change the Startup Type from Automatic to Manual.
Click OK.
Disable the cluster disk driver. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Device Manager.
Make sure that the Show hidden devices option is enabled. To do this, click Show hidden devices on the View menu.
Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers, right-click Cluster Disk Driver, click Properties, click the Driver tab, click Disabled in the Startup type list, and then click OK.
Close Computer Management, and then restart the computer.
Log on to the computer.
Start the cluster disk driver. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Device Manager.
Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers, right-click Cluster Disk Driver, click Properties, click the Driver tab, click System in the Startup type list, and then click OK.
Configure the Cluster Server service to start automatically. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
Click Cluster Server, and then click Startup.
Change the Startup Type from Manual to Automatic.
Click OK.
Close Computer Management, and then restart the computer.
Turn on all nodes.
