"Folder versions" list is blank, or you receive a message on Windows Vista: "There are no previous versions available"

On a Windows Vista-based computer, the Folder versions list is blank, or you receive the following message: This issue occurs when you access the properties of a file or of a folder, and then you click the Previous Versions tab.

Additionally, if you use the command vssadmin list shadows at a command prompt, the volume that hosts the file or the folder will have a list of shadow copies that are associated with the volume.

This issue occurs if File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is not bound to Local Area Connection.

To bind File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks to Local Area Connection, follow these steps:

1. Click Start

   , type Network and Sharing Center in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2. Click Manage network connections on the Tasks bar.
3. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

   If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
4. In the This connection uses the following items list, click to select the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks check box, and then click OK.
   
   Note If File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is not listed in the This connection uses the following items list, follow these steps:
   1. In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, click Install.
   2. In the Select Network Feature Type dialog box, click Service, and then click Add.
   3. Click File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks in the Network Service list, and then click OK.
   4. Verify that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is now listed in the This connection uses the following items list, and then click Close.
