FIX: The server message block file server may stop responding to client computer requests in Windows Embedded CE 6.0

In Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 you experience one of the following symptoms in the server message block (SMB) file server.

Symptom 1

The SMB file server may stop responding to client computer requests. When this problem occurs, other network services that are running on the device respond to the requests. For example, other network services that are running on the device respond to Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) ping requests.

Symptom 2

Consider the following scenario:

• The value of the UseAuthentication registry entry is set to 0 (zero).
• You do not have a valid username or password that has been configured so that you can connect to the device.

In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:

The first symptom that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section occurs because of a deadlock in the SMB file server.

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 6.0 Platform Builder Monthly Update (Jun 2007). This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To clean the platform, click Clean on the Build menu. To build the platform, click Build Platform on the Build menu. You do not have to restart the computer after you install this update.
