Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• When you use the "Email a Link" feature on a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Web site, a hyperlink to a document may not work as expected. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The site URL contains a dash (-) character or a period (.) character.
  • You specify the name of the server by using a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
