How to install Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 DirectLink and how to configure DirectLink for Microsoft FRx

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to install Microsoft Forecaster 7.0 DirectLink for use with Microsoft FRx. This article also describes how to configure DirectLink. To perform these actions, you must have access to SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Additionally, DirectLink must be installed on each computer that uses Microsoft FRx.

To install DirectLink and then configure DirectLink for use in Microsoft FRx, follow these steps.

Step 1: Create a user account as a Microsoft SQL Server user to pull Forecaster 7.0 data

Follow these steps on the server that is running SQL Server and that contains the Forecaster database:
  1. Verify that you are using FRx Reporter Service Pack 9 or later.
  2. Start the appropriate version of SQL Server, as follows:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager for SQL Server 2000.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2005. Enter a user account and a password for an account that has SysAdmin rights. For example, log in as the sa user. Then, click Connect to Database Engine.
  3. Expand the server_name node, where server_name represents the actual server name. Then, expand the Security node.
  4. Right-click Logins, and then click New Login.
  5. Enter a user name for the appropriate version of SQL Server, as follows:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      In the Name box, type Reporter.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      In the Login box, type a user name of Reporter.
  6. Enter a password for the appropriate version of SQL Server, as follows:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      Click SQL Server Authentication. Then, type a password in the Password box.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      Click SQL Server Authentication. Then, type a password in the Password box and in the Confirm password box.
  7. Select the Forecaster database. To do this, follow these steps:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      In the Database list, click the Forecaster database.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      Click the User Mapping tab. Then, click the Forecaster database.
  8. Click the Database Access tab. Then, click the Forecaster database.
  9. Select the appropriate database roles. To do this, follow these steps:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      On the Database Access tab, click db_datareader and Forecaster under Database roles.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      On the Database Access tab, click the public role and the Forecaster role under Database roles.
    Note Administrative users in Microsoft Forecaster should also be assigned the db_owner role.
  10. Click OK.
  11. In the Confirm new password box, type the password.

    Note This step applies only to SQL Server 2000.

Step 2: Create the user account to pull Forecaster 7.0 data as a Forecaster user

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Microsoft Forecaster.
  2. In the Authentication list, click Standard Authentication.
  3. Log on as an administrative user.
  4. Click Setup. Then, click Security.
  5. Right-click the group to which you want to add the new user. For example, click Administrator. Then, click New.
  6. Click New User. Then, click OK.
  7. In the Username box, type Reporter.
  8. Click OK to close the User Properties dialog box.
  9. Click Save. Then, close the Groups window.

Step 3: Create an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection on each workstation on which Microsoft FRx is installed

Follow these steps on each workstation that uses DirectLink:
  1. In Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, and then click Data Source (ODBC).
  2. Click the System DSN tab, and then click Add.
  3. Select SQL Server. Then, click Finish.
  4. In the Name box, type Forecaster.
  5. In the Description box, type a description, and then click the server that is running SQL Server and that contains the Forecaster database.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Click With SQL Server Authentication using a login ID and password entered by the user.
  8. In the Login ID box, type the name of the SQL Server user account that you created in the "Step 1: Create a SQL Server user account in SQL Server Enterprise Manager" section. Type the password for this user account. Then, click Next.
  9. Click Change the default database to. Then, click the Microsoft Forecaster database.

    Note You may skip this step because you can select the database to which you want to point on the System Specific Information tab. Therefore, you do not have to select a default database.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.

Step 4: Enable the Forecaster database to be used with DirectLink

  1. Start Forecaster 7.0.
  2. Click Tools. Then, click Options.
  3. Click the System Settings tab.
  4. Click to select the Use this database with DirectLink check box.
  5. Click OK.

Step 5: Verify the setup of the Forecaster segments

  1. In Microsoft Forecaster, click Setup, point to Segments and then click Definition.
  2. In the Length column, change the length to the maximum defined length that you plan to use.

Step 6: Run the DirectLink installation scripts against the Forecaster database

  1. Visit the following Web pages to download the DirectLink installation scripts.

  2. Start Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio. To do this, follow these steps:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then click SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2005. Enter a user account and password for an account that has SysAdmin rights. For example, enter this information for the sa user. Then, click Connect to Database Engine.
  3. Start Query Analyzer. To do this, follow these steps:
    • For SQL Server 2000

      In Enterprise Manager, click Tools, and then click Query Analyzer.
    • For SQL Server 2005

      In SQL Server Management Studio, click New Query.
  4. Click the Forecaster database.
  5. Run CreateTables.sql.
  6. Run CreateStoredProcs.sql.
  7. Run grantpermissionsFC70.sql.
  8. Exit Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio.

Step 7: Create a Microsoft Forecaster company in Microsoft FRx

  1. Click Admin, click Organization, and then click Forecaster 7.0.
  2. Enter the new registration keys for Microsoft Forecaster 7.0.
  3. Start Microsoft FRx, click Company, and then click Information.
  4. Click New.
  5. In the FRx Company Code box, type the name that you want to use for the Microsoft Forecaster company.
  6. In the Accounting System list, click Microsoft Forecaster 7.0.
  7. Click the System Specific Information tab.
  8. In the FRx Company Code for associated G/L box, type the name of the company that you want to associate with the Microsoft Forecaster company.
  9. In the Data Source Name list, click the ODBC connection that you created.
  10. In the Database Name box, type the name of the Forecaster database.
  11. Click Save to save the new company.
