SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 in an organization, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • You experience many errors on computers that run site system roles that rely on Internet Information Services (IIS) for their functionality. For example, you may experience the following errors:
    • A management point fails its self test. In this case, the error is logged in the MPControl.log file.
    • If you configured logging for the Software Update Point (SUP) feature, SUP synchronization (SUP sync) failure errors are logged.
  • If Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) logging is enabled, many errors are logged in the Application log. These errors include the following:
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 13042
    • Event type: Warning
      Event ID: 13051
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12002
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12012
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12032
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12022
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12042
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 12052
    • Event type: Error
      Event ID: 0

CAUSE

This problem may occur if IIS has been installed by using source files from mixed service pack levels. For example, you may experience this problem if some files for the IIS installation are from the original release version of Windows Server 2003 and some files are from Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Remove IIS by using the Add/Remove Windows Components option in the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.
  2. Install IIS by using the Add/Remove Windows Components option in the Add or Remove Programs item.
  3. When you are prompted to insert Windows Server 2003 media to install IIS, use the media for the current service pack level of the computer. For example, if the computer is running Windows Server 2003 SP2, use Windows Server 2003 SP2 media.
