When you start a slide show in Windows Photo Gallery in Windows Vista, the slide show stops, and you receive the following message:
Loading…
When this issue occurs, you do not see the slide show pictures. You may hear audio for the slide show if the slide show includes audio. This issue occurs even though the Windows Experience Index rates the Graphics and Gaming graphics of the computer with scores of 3.0 or more.
This issue may occur if the following conditions are true:
- Your display does not support the progressive scan mode or the non-interlaced scan mode in the current resolution. For example, the screen may only support the interlaced scan mode in the current resolution.

| Note | Some displays support only the interlaced mode in specific resolutions. For example, many plasma and LCD televisions use the 480i or the 1080i modes. In these examples, the letter "i" signifies "interlaced." |
- Windows Vista tries to use the DirectX Exclusive mode to draw the images. When the DirectX Exclusive mode is used, the progressive scan mode is always used.
When you play a slide show, Windows Vista uses the Windows Experience Index ratings for graphics to determine whether to use the DirectX Exclusive mode or the GDI+ mode to draw the images. If the system is using a more powerful graphics device, Windows Vista uses the DirectX Exclusive mode. Otherwise, Windows Vista uses the GDI+ mode. When Windows Vista uses the DirectX Exclusive mode, the progressive mode is always used. However, if the display does not support progressive mode in the current resolution, you may experience the issue that is described in the "Problem description" section.
To work around this issue, use either of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.
Method 1
Use a display that does support progressive mode in the selected resolution.
Method 2
Edit the registry to force Windows Vista to use the GDI+ mode.
