INTRODUCTION

This article describes the three options that are provided when you try to join a meeting for the first time in Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2005.

MORE INFORMATION

When you try to join a meeting in Live Meeting 2005 for the first time by using Windows Internet Explorer, you are provided the following three options:
  • Use Web Console
  • Install Windows Console
  • Run Windows Console

Use the Web console

The Web console is a Java-based console that requires the Java engine to be installed on the computer. The Web console has limited features. Therefore, it does not provide the optimal experience.

Install the Windows console

The Windows console is a Windows-based program that has more features and capabilities than the Web console does. To install the Windows console, you must have permissions to install software on the computer from the Internet.

Requirements to install the Windows console

  • The following operating systems support the Windows console:
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 2
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 3
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
    • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003
    • Microsoft Windows XP
    • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    • Microsoft Windows XP Home N
    • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
    • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    • Microsoft Windows XP Professional N
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
    • Microsoft Windows XP Starter Edition
    • Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
  • The Windows-based Meeting Console Standalone Installer for all languages works with the following operating system and browser configurations:
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4 together with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 or Netscape 7.2.
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 together with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 or Netscape 7.2.
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 together with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1.

Run the Windows console

To run the Windows console, the console must be already installed on the computer.

If you select the Run Windows Console option when the console is not installed, the computer will try to load the Launch.imf file. If you are prompted to find or to save the Launch.imf file, the Windows console is not installed on the computer. You can go back to the Meeting Entry Page and then select the Install Windows Console option. Or, visit the following Microsoft Web site to install the console:
