Article ID: 939044 - Last Review: October 8, 2011 - Revision: 2.0 FIX: ASP.NET 1.1 does not support registration-free COM interop functionality in the virtual directory on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2-based computer
On This PageSYMPTOMSOn a Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2-based computer, ASP.NET 1.1 does not support the registration-free COM interop functionality in the virtual directory. CAUSEThis problem occurs because of a regression in Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Because of this regression, the side-by-side (SxS) assemblies activation context ignores registration-free COM interop settings at the AppDomain level in the virtual directory. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONBefore you install Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 on the computer, ASP.NET 1.1 uses the XML manifest file to load registration-free COM interop settings at the AppDomain level in the virtual directory. However, after you install the Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 on the computer, ASP.NET 1.1 only loads registration-free COM interop settings at the process level.
