FIX: After you use the AVIStreamWrite function to create an AVI file in Windows Vista, you cannot play the AVI file

SYMPTOMS

You use the AVIStreamWrite function to create an AVI file in an application that is running in Windows Vista. However, you cannot play the AVI file, or the video that is generated by the AVI file is black.

CAUSE

There is an error in the AVIStreamWrite function that causes the AVI header to be incorrectly created.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Note When you install this hotfix on a computer, the installer checks whether any of the files that are being updated on the computer have previously been updated by a Microsoft hotfix.
