Symptoms

When you add multiple values to a lookup table that is used by an outline code, Microsoft Office Project 2007 takes longer than expected to add the new values. In some cases, it may take five to 10 times longer to add the new values.

Cause

This problem occurs because Project 2007 searches for duplicate values in the lookup table. As the lookup table grows larger, Project 2007 takes longer to search for duplicate values in the table as you add new values.

Resolution

This problem is resolved by applying the Project 2007 hotfix package: June 17, 2007.

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Project 2007 Hotfix Package that is dated June 17, 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To prevent Project 2007 from searching for duplicate values in a lookup table, add the DontCheckDuplicateLT registry entry, and then set its value to 1. To do this, follow these steps.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\MS Project\
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWord Value.
  4. Type DontCheckDuplicateLT, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor
