SYMPTOMS

You join a conference in Microsoft Office Live Meeting as a presenter. When you try to share your Whiteboard or your documents with the participants, you receive the following message:

However, the Whiteboard or documents are never loaded.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Web Component server does not have a certificate installed in Internet Information Services (IIS). Therefore, when the Live Meeting client tries to connect to HTTPS URL on the Communications Server 2007 Web Component server, the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection fails.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, request a certificate, and then install the certificate on the Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the computer that is running the Communications Server 2007 Web Component server, click Start, click Run, type inetmgr, and then click OK.
  2. Expand the server name, and then expand Web Sites.
  3. Right-click Default Web Site, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Directory Security tab, and then click Server Certificate.
  5. In the Welcome to the Web Server Certificate Wizard dialog box, click Next.
  6. Click to select the Create a new certificate option, and then click Next.
  7. Click to select the Send Request Immediately to an online certification authority option, and then click Next.
  8. Enter a name in the Name box, and then click Next.
  9. Enter a name in the Organization box, and then click Next.
  10. Enter the FQDN of the Communications Server 2007 Web Component server in the Common name box, and then click Next.
  11. Enter the required information, and then click Next.
  12. Enter 443 for the SSL port, and then click Next.
  13. Select the certification authority, and then click Next.
  14. Click Next, and then click Finish.
  15. After the certificate is issued by the certification authority, repeat steps 1 to 5.
  16. Click to select the Assign an existing certificate option, and then click Next.
  17. Select the certificate that you created, and then click Next.
  18. Enter 443 for the SSL port, and then click Next.
  19. Click Next, and then click Finish.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use external connections, you must publish the Communications Server 2007 Web Component server by using an HTTP reverse proxy. If you use a third-party HTTP reverse proxy, request help from the manufacturer about how to configure and load the certificate. If you use Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006 as the reverse proxy, refer to OCS_edgeserverdeploy.doc for instructions about how to configure ISA Server 2006.
