INTRODUCTION

The Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based Network Load Balancing (NLB) service is not supported by Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 in production or lab deployments. Communications Server 2007 may use a hardware load balancer to maintain the network load balancing.

The Windows Server 2003-based NLB service is not supported by Communications Server 2007. A Communications Server 2007 enterprise pool that consists of more than one front-end server requires a hardware load balancer. A hardware load balancer is not required if you deploy one of the following:
  • A Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition server
  • A single front-end server from Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition
A hardware load balancer is recommended for an array of Communications Server 2007 Edge servers or directors.
