INTRODUCTION

Software-based network load balancing, including Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB), is not supported for any servers running Office Communications Server in production or lab environments. Communications Server may use a hardware load balancer to maintain the network load balancing.

Software-based network load balancing, including Windows Network Load Balancing (NLB), is not supported for any servers running Office Communications Server. A Communications Server enterprise pool that consists of more than one front end server requires a hardware load balancer. A hardware load balancer is not required if you deploy one of the following:
  • A Communications Server Standard Edition server '
  • A single front-end server from Communications Server Enterprise Edition
A hardware load balancer is recommended for an array of Communications Server Edge servers or Directors.
