The Photo E-mail wizard closes when you try to send a picture in e-mail from Windows Live Photo Gallery

SYMPTOMS

When you try to send a picture from Windows Live Photo Gallery by using e-mail in Windows Vista or Windows XP, the Photo E-mail wizard does not send the picture. Instead, the wizard closes.

This problem occurs when you select a picture in Windows Live Photo Gallery, select Share, and then click E-Mail.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because no e-mail program is set as the default e-mail program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps.

Windows Vista
  1. Click Start

    Start button
    , and then click Control Panel.
    Note The next steps document Control Panel in Classic View. To access this view, click Classic View in the navigation pane.
  2. Double-click Default Programs, and then click Set your default programs.
  3. Select the e-mail program that you want to set as the default program.
  4. Click Set this program as default, and then click OK.
Windows XP
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Set Program Access and Defaults in the navigation pane.
  4. Click Custom.
  5. Under Choose a default e-mail program, select the e-mail program that you want to set as the default program, and then click to select the Enable access to this program check box.
  6. Click OK.

More information

The default e-mail program in Windows Vista is Windows Mail. When another e-mail program is installed, it may become the default e-mail program. However, if you remove that e-mail program, no other e-mail program will be automatically set as the default program.
