You may experience slow system performance when you view multipage .tiff files in Windows Live Photo Gallery. Additionally, the memory usage increases significantly.

After Windows Live Photo Gallery finishes rendering the first of several images on the screen, it immediately starts to load the next image. This process is known as precaching. If an image is a multipage .tiff file, Windows Live Photo Gallery processes the complete file. This process may take awhile, depending on the size of the .tiff file. An issue with how precaching is implemented causes lots of system resources to be used. This behavior causes the symptoms that are described in the "Symptoms" section.
