Works 9 does not support synchronizing the Works Calendar and the Address Book together with portable devices

INTRODUCTION

This article discusses that Microsoft Works 9 does not support synchronizing the Works Calendar and the Address Book in Microsoft Windows XP or the Windows Contacts book in Windows Vista together with portable devices.

Works 9 uses the Address Book or the Windows Contacts book to perform address book synchronization. Many synchronization programs can directly import data from the Windows Contacts book and from the Address Book.

You can export the information that is contained in a Works 9 Calendar in the following file formats:
  • iCalendar
  • vCalendar
  • HTML
  • Tab delimited
To import these file formats, use any device synchronization program.

When you upgrade from an earlier version of Microsoft Works to Works 9, the files and settings that are related to the Works Calendar book and Address Book synchronization are removed. The following files are removed from the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Works folder:
  • Wkwzaddr.dll
  • Wkwzlh.dll
  • Wkwzmrg.dll
  • Wkwzsmpl.dll
  • Wkwztmpl.dll
  • Wkwzlay.dll
  • WkwzThm.dll
  • Wkwzwiz.dll
The following file is removed from the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Works\1033 folder:
  • Wwkwzlng.dll
