Description of the Microsoft Windows registry SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install a program on a Windows Vista-based computer by using the Install a program from the network item in Control Panel, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: Fatal error during installation \\SERVER-SHARE\COMPUTER_NAME$\cached\appdata(roaming) Note SERVER-SHARE is a placeholder for the actual server share name. COMPUTER_NAME is a placeholder for the actual computer name.CAUSEThis problem may occur if the value for the following registry entry has been changed: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\AppData WORKAROUNDWarning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved.
